Chaddsford Wine Educator Wins Young Leaders Scholarship to SommCon®

SommCon® is a three-day educational conference that brings together industry professionals of all levels to discuss, develop, and lead the conversation on the business of wine.

The Young Leaders Scholarship grants conference admission to young professionals under 30 who are hand-selected through a competitive application process.

Chaddsford Winery's own Rachel Rhan has been chosen for this prestigious honor and will attend the 2019 conference in Washington, D.C. this June.

In her role as Wine Educator at Chaddsford, Rachel is responsible for staff training, developing wine pairings, leading the Reserve Tasting and Tour program, and much more.

As she's currently studying to become a certified sommelier, this experience will surely afford Rachel a unique opportunity to learn, taste, and grow as a professional alongside industry leaders.

Q+A with Rachel Rhan, Chaddsford Winery's Wine Educator

What are you most looking forward to about SommCon 2019?

I’m most looking forward to getting exposure to new and unique wines and learning about the different styles coming from all corners of the world. Plus who doesn’t love tasting wine for three days?

What’s your favorite wine and why?

My favorite wine is probably Malbec. I love the deep plum and spice notes to it. It pairs nicely with many, many dishes and it’s my tried and true go to. I’ve never met a Malbec I haven’t liked.

Where are you currently at in the process of becoming a sommelier?

I’m currently entering into the AWC (advanced wine course) through the international Sommelier Guild. Once that’s completed, I’m about to take my Somm level 1 classes.
